Our Story

Established in 2023, Habitat Select Nursery is on a mission to collect native seeds, propagate and supply plants native to the southeastern US, supporting reforestation, landscaping, and ecological restoration efforts while promoting biodiversity and conservation. We leverage the expertise of its principals and staff through an extensive network of regional, state, and national relationships.

Our Nursery

Nestled along the serene Attoyac River just outside Nacogdoches, Texas, our nursery finds its home at Blackjack. For decades, Terry Anderson has nurtured this land, transforming it into a vibrant living classroom for students and professionals alike. With roots deeply intertwined with the land, our nursery seamlessly integrates into the rich heritage of Blackjack, embodying a tradition of care and stewardship passed down through generations.

We are inspired to cultivate native plants and promote sustainable land practices. We are proud to be part of the ongoing evolution of this special property, where the legacy of stewardship continues to thrive. At our nursery, we honor this heritage by offering quality native plant materials and fostering a deeper connection to the land.

Our Sourcing

At Habitat Select Nursery, our commitment to quality extends to the very seeds we collect and the genetic diversity we offer. We prioritize the collection of our own seeds, ensuring that each seedling originates from unique genetic sources. This dedication is evident in our collection practices, as we venture to diverse ecosystems to gather seeds, including rare specimens from iconic locations like the Devils River in south Texas. We procure seeds from majestic oaks and pecans, harnessing the resilience and adaptability of these species to enrich our seedling offerings.

Our pursuit of genetic diversity extends to more localized treasures, such as the Red Maple seedlings sourced from the largest Red Maple tree in the state of Texas. By sourcing seeds from this remarkable tree, we not only celebrate the natural heritage of our region but also ensure that our customers receive seedlings with unparalleled genetic potential. Our dedication to collecting and offering seeds from unique genetic sources reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, resilient plants that thrive in diverse environments.
